ICN's Star Student
Shout-out to our November Star Student: Colette Elkind-Maron.
Colette has been an exemplary rockstar from the get-go. Her first semester of chess was virtual last year, and we've enjoyed her return this year as we brought back in-person chess to PS 230.
Second sibling in the family, chess is certainly not new to her but her name has quickly become well-known in her class, in the PS 230 Chess Club & Team, and also outside the school community as well.
Don't underestimate this 1st grader as she literally knocks out 1000+ puzzles almost every week, and has kept her lead for ChessKid PLW points for over 8 weeks in a row. Her current all-time puzzles solved since September is 3817! Incredible! She's also landed herself several times on our ICN Top 50 ChessKid page, which tracks and compares progress for the Top 50 students among 20+ schools and 800+ students.
We're very pleased to see that her tough work and commitment has paid off. Sunday's November Team Tournament was her first tournament, and scored 2 out of 3 points.
Congratulations and well deserved!
