Program Vision:

From complete beginners to advancing tournament players, our goal is that all PS 34 players can experience both the joy & significant social/educational benefits of learning and playing chess. Our PS 34 Team will prepare for local, City, State & National Competitions. Our in-person programming will match players into groups based on skill, interest level & age. This allows coaches to identify and create the right training environment for each player (complete beginner - advanced competitors).

ICN class groupings (subject to change based on program enrollment):

  • Rooks: 300+ USCF

  • Bishops: U300 USCF & players with an eye towards competition

  • Pawns: K-1 introductory coaching and play

  • Tuesday Chess Club & Team: $745 per semester

  • October 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th

  • November 12th, 19th, 26th

  • December 3rd, 10th, 17th

  • January 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th

Players meet in the cafeteria directly after-school where they receive a light snack and have a team meeting. Instruction and play will occur in PS 34 classes onsite. Pick-up will occur at 5:00 PM directly in front of the school.

Lateral movements will occur, as we experiment with class grouping and activities to identify the optimal training opportunities for our players. Players will be promoted throughout the season as coaches feel fit. 

A high emphasis on participation, engagement and self-study will be placed on our team groups. 

PS 34 will have a weekly opening meeting, where past week’s success is recognized, the upcoming events are emphasized and expectations and team spirit is reinforced.

PS 34 Team Competitions:

Our PS 34 Team will compete at local, City, State & National competitions.
