Program Vision:

From complete beginners to advancing tournament players, our goal is that all PS 340 players can experience both the joy & significant social/educational benefits of learning and playing chess. Our PS 340 Team will prepare for local, City, State & National Competitions. Our in-person programming will match players into groups based on skill, interest level & age. This allows coaches to identify and create the right training environment for each player (complete beginner - advanced competitors).

ICN class groupings (subject to change based on program enrollment):

  • Rooks: 300+ USCF & players with an eye towards competition

  • Bishops: U300 USCF & social play

  • Pawns: K-1 introductory coaching and play

Program Rates:

  • Tuesday Chess Club & Team: $715 per semester

  • 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM

  • January 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th

Players are picked up from the cafeteria, directly after-school. Training and play will take place in classrooms onsite at PS 340. Chess dismissal is at 4:30 PM in the lobby.

Lateral movements will occur, as we experiment with class grouping and activities to identify the optimal training opportunities for our players. Players will be promoted throughout the season as coaches feel fit. 

A high emphasis on participation, engagement and self-study will be placed on our team groups. 

PS 340 will have a weekly opening meeting, where past week’s success is recognized, the upcoming events are emphasized and expectations and team spirit is reinforced.

PS 340 Team Competitions:

Our PS 340 Team will compete at local, City, State & National competitions.
