National Champions!
This past weekend nearly 70 of our players representing 19 schools from across ICN traveled from NYC to Spokane Washington for the annual US Chess Grade National Championships. Though the event was a single weekend, these players and teams have dedicated countless hours and years of preparation. The results were significant including 10 top ten team finishes, two National Championship runner ups(PS 166 1st grade & PS 130k 5th grade and a newly crowned 3rd Grade Team National Championship (PS 198). Lower lab once again delivered an incredible performance placing 5 grade National teams into the top 10, the most out of any elementary school in the USA. Finally PS 33 continued their legacy of Grade National Championship success, earning a hard fought top 5 in the 5th grade section.
With PS 198’s 3rd Grade National Championship, it marks the 5th ICN program to win a US National Championship open section!
We train our kids to practice hard, to compete hard, to get on plans and travel across the country against all odds because excellence matters, rewarding hard work matters and the opportunity to compete with your team and walk National stages are memories that will last a lifetime, highlighting each of our own greatest potential and that when we all collectively strive for excellence, excellence will certainly be achieved!!
We also enjoyed incredible success on the individual front with PS 198’s Max tying for 1st in 3rd grade and Nest’s JBO tying for 1st in 5th grade!
Thanks to our incredible coaching staff for your efforts, your dedication to the kids is what’s needed. Thanks to the parents for flying across the country in support of your children, that’s what makes this possible and that’s where the magic happens.
