2023 Elementary Nationals Report
This weekend marked the Elementary National Chess Championship in Baltimore, Maryland. Over 2000 kids from across the country competed in eleven sections, from kindergarten through sixth grade.
We sent 274 players from 22 teams, and the kids represented their teams and school communities with passion and pride, and due to their amazing readiness and resilience, the results were unprecedented.
Of the eight sections in which we fielded teams, we won first places in FOUR of them, with numerous top 5 and top 10 finishes across the whole network.
There must be something about lions! Our PS 77 Lower Lab Lions took first in both K-6 U1400 and K-3 U1000, and our PS 130 Brooklyn Lions took first in both K-5 U900 and K-3 U700.
We also saw remarkable results at the individual level. PS 130's championship finish was led by Jonah F perfect 7-0 score, and PS 130's third place finish in K-5 U1200 was led by Elias Chu's perfect 7-0!
