GM Sam Shankland Headlines 2021 Summer Programs

We are thrilled to announce that for the 4th consecutive year - GM Sam Shankland will headline our Summer Programs and will be featured in both our Virtual & Physical locations.

GM Sam Shankland will provide daily training positions for both our Virtual & Physical Camps along with live virtual review on Fridays which will be attended by both our Virtual & Physical Camps.

A long time friend of our ICN programs, GM Shankland is one of the Top American players of ALL TIME! Shankland won clear 1st at the US Championships in 2018 and quickly climbed to a TOP 25 player in the WORLD. With a peak rating of 2731 FIDE, Shankland is the third highest American born player in history only behind the Great Bobby Fischer and Fabiano Caruana.

About 2021 Summer Camps:

Summer camps have always been a highlight of our ICN programming, providing our players, teams and coaches with an accelerated learning environment where students have the opportunity to train in a competitive results driven environment while still enjoying plenty of social opportunities and summer camp fun. Each session will incorporate a combination of live lectures, rated match play, social opportunities, contests and much more. Players will be grouped based on their appropriate level. Our 2021 camps will once again be headlined by former US Champion GM Sam Shankland! GM Shankland will provide daily training positions which he will review with the group each Friday!


Online Scholastic Summer Leagues: 5:30 PM Daily

We are thrilled to launch our New Online Scholastic Summer Chess League. Our OSSCL will be headlined by GM Sam Shankland and feature our new Online Playing Platform. League play will be open to all scholastic players from across NYC, The United States and beyond! 

Our goal is to provide a highly competitive yet supportive and fun environment where our students can continue to have access to high quality, engaged daily competition and be part of a larger social community.

We look forward to offering the premier online playing experience for high performing scholastic players and becoming the gold standard for online scholastic competition and excellence.

Our league will include daily stats and standings (team and individual), live rating updates (internal rating system) and access to a live weekly training session hosted by former US Champion Sam Shankland, where he reviews top games played from across our OSSCL (Wednesdays 7:00 PM EST).

How it works:

Our Online Scholastic Summer Chess League will launch June 29th and run continuously Monday - Friday at 5:30 PM, EST.

Our OSCCL will feature three rounds of G25, D5 daily competition.

Once you have registered, you will receive a unique username and password and access to our online playing platform.

For those who are currently active on our platform, you can continue to use your current username and password.

Through our new online platform, players will be given access to our daily events.

Please note that players will be promoted to new sections each Monday to reflect their update online ratings, which are updated daily after afternoon play.

Players can only be promoted and never demoted.

Registration is ongoing; players can enter our league at any point.

About GM Sam Shankland:

Samuel L. Shankland is an American chess grandmaster and the current U.S. Chess Champion. Shankland learned to play chess at the age of 6 and played in his first tournament at the age of 10. He was California State Champion in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012, and Champion of State Champions in 2009. He won bronze at the 2008 World U18 Championship, and was US Junior Champion in 2010.[2] He earned his international master title in 2008 and his grandmaster title in 2011. Shankland surpassed a FIDE rating of 2600 in 2012, and entered the world's top 100 players in 2014. As a member of the United States team, he won the gold medal for the best individual performance on the reserve board at the 41st Chess Olympiad. He also was part of the team at the 42nd Chess Olympiad, where the United States won team gold for the first time in forty years. In 2018, he won the U.S. Chess Championship, simultaneously breaching the 2700 barrier for the first time in his career.
