ICN Star Student

I'm excited to unveil Bruce Yaryshkin as my Star Student of the month!

Bruce has been on the PS 10 chess team for a number of years, but only started competing mid-December of 2022. Bruce does his ChessKid consistently, and his puzzle rating is still climbing, but his strength and determination helped him break 1000 USCF during the NYS Chess Championship!

Bruce competes every week, whether it's in class with Coach Nancy or at our weekly events, and he started training only 3 months before the state championship. Once there, he was a crucial part of his team as he scored 5 points out of a total 6, placed 2nd individually in his section, and brought his team to 3rd in the K-5 U1000 section.

Thanks to his fighting spirit, Bruce has now moved to the top group and is more focused than ever, inspiring his fellow classmates to follow suit! Students like Bruce are the heart of our programs, those who study and train hard to break through their goals.
