Program Vision:

From complete beginners to advancing tournament players our goal is that all PS 130M players can experience both the joy & significant social/educational benefits of learning and playing chess. Our PS 130M Team will prepare for local, City, State & National Competitions. Players are matched into groups based on skill, interest level & age. This allows coaches to identify and create the right training environment for each player (complete beginner - advanced competitors).


ICN class groupings (subject to change based on program enrollment):

  • Kings: 1000+ USCF

  • Queens: 800+ USCF

  • Rooks: U800 USCF (500-799 USCF) & with an eye towards competition

  • Bishops: U500 USCF & advancing Tournament players

  • Knights: U300 USCF & social developmental play

  • Pawns: K-1 introductory coaching and play


Program Rates:

  • Friday Chess Club & Team: $695 per semester

  • Optional Late pick up 5:00 - 6:00 pm: extra $165 per semester

Players will meet directly after-school in the Playroom. Light snack, training and play will take place in classrooms onsite at PS 130M. Pickup will occur at 5:00 PM outside Hester Street lot.

Lateral movements will occur, as we experiment with class grouping and activities to identify the optimal training opportunities for our players. Players will be promoted throughout the season as coaches feel fit. 

A high emphasis on participation, engagement and self-study will be placed on our team groups. 

PS 130M will have weekly opening meetings, where past week’s success is recognized, the upcoming events are emphasized, and expectations and team spirit is reinforced.

PS 130M Team Competitions:

Our PS 130M Team will compete at local, City, State & National competitions.
