2019 City Championship Report
The 53nd Annual City Championship (longest running scholastic event in history) was a TREMENDOUS success for ICN programs across the board!
With just under 1500 players participating from across NYC, this was one of the largest City Championships in history. ICN fielded a STAGGERING 226 competitors representing players & teams from PS 11, PS 33, PS 59, PS 116, PS 111, PS 281, PS 77, PS 10, PS 139, PS 230 and Basis Manhattan. This made up roughly 21 PERCENT of all players competing in Elementary sections!
Our players showed true grit and determination as they battled against NYC's very best players & teams across 10 City Championship sections and over two full days of chess.
In the end there was plenty to celebrate as ICN teams secured NINETEEN Top 10 team finishes, THIRTEEN team trophy honors, TWELVE Top 5 team finishes and an impressive Primary City Co-Championship.
Individually our players also shined, claiming TWENTY EIGHT individual trophies, NINE individual medals and crowning FIVE new individual City Champions!
*ICN programs accounted for an INCREDIBLE 27 PERCENT of all TOP 5 PLACEMENTS in Elementary sections!
We could not be more proud of our players tireless preparation, dedication and commitment to excellence! This was on full display the entire weekend.
