Welcome to the PS 40 Chess Club and Team Registration for the Chess Club & Team is now open!
Program Vision:
From complete beginners to advancing tournament players, our goal is that all PS 40 players can experience both the joy & significant social/educational benefits of learning and playing chess. Our PS 40 Team will prepare for local, City, State & National Competitions.
Players are matched into groups based on skill, interest level & age. This allows coaches to identify and create the right training environment for each player. (complete beginner - advanced competitors)
ICN class groupings (subject to change based on program enrollment):
Rooks: 300+ USCF
Bishops: U300 USCF Advancing players with an eye towards competition
Pawns: K-1 introductory coaching and play

Players will meet in the cafeteria directly after-school where they will have a light snack. Training and play will take place in classrooms onsite at PS 40. Pickup will occur at 5 PM in the lobby.
Lateral movements will occur, as we experiment with class grouping and activities to identify the optimal training opportunities for our players. Players will be promoted throughout the season as coaches feel fit.
A high emphasis on participation, engagement and self-study will be placed on our team groups.
PS 40 will have a weekly opening meeting, where past week’s success is recognized, the upcoming events are emphasized and expectations and team spirit is reinforced.
PS 40 Team Competitions:
Our PS 40 Team will compete at local, City, State & National competitions.
Program Rates:
Tuesday Chess Club & Team: $795 per semester
Thursday Chess Club & Team: $795 per semester
Tuesday + Thursday Chess Club & Team: $1350 per semester
Optional Late pick up 5:00 - 6:00 pm: $165 per semester
Optional Two-day Late pick up 5:00 - 6:00 pm: $330 per semester
