2020 City Championship Report
The 54th Annual City Championship (longest running scholastic event in history) was a TREMENDOUS success for ICN programs across the board!
With 1640 players participating from across NYC, this was the largest City Championships in history. ICN fielded a STAGGERING 288 competitors representing players & teams from PS 11, PS 33, PS 59, PS 116, PS 111, PS 281, PS 77, PS 10, PS 139, PS 230, PS 130K, Basis Independent Manhattan and Basis Independent Brooklyn. This made up roughly 22 PERCENT of all players competing in Elementary sections!
*ICN programs accounted for an INCREDIBLE 27 PERCENT of all TEAM AWARDS won in Elementary sections!
Our players showed true grit and determination as they battled against NYC's very best players & teams across 9 City Championship sections and over two full days of chess.
In the end there was plenty to celebrate as ICN teams secured TWENTY THREE Top 10 Team finishes, FIFTEEN Team trophy honors and THREE Team City Championships!
Individually our players also shined, claiming TWENTY SIX individual trophies and crowning FIVE new individual City Champions!
