Suggested Solutions for Common Technical Issues

We understand you may experience technical issues and we continue to thank you for your patience as we work to get all your questions answered and your child ready for the next online tournament.

*Please Note: Tournaments will not work through ChessKid App. Tournaments are only available through a web browser. See below for suggested web browsers. Performing a regular browser cache clear will also help with pairing issues.

For immediate help, please directly email any additional questions or issues to icnchesskid@gmail.com with the assigned Chesskid username in the subject line, and any relevant screenshots we may be able to use.

The Chesskid website does suggest the following tips to avoid any issues during the tournament:

*Please Note: If you are using a Apple product, we have noticed Firefox Web Browser works best

  1. Play from a computer if at all possible - not from a mobile device.

  2. Use the recommended browsers Firefox & Chrome (and definitely not Edge or Internet Explorer)

  3. Perform a regular browser cache clear (I can't stress how important this is for problem-free Fast Chess play! It clears up so many issues of players not appearing in the Friends tab, and pieces not being able to move correctly.) Here's an article on how to do that: https://www.chesskid.com/article/view/how-to-clear-your-browsers-cache

  4. A page refresh is never a bad idea - especially if there was a connection issue on the part of the player or the opponent, or if they think the system is not registering a move.

  5. We don't recommend having multiple tabs open - when playing in a tournament, it's best to remain in the tournament until the end of the event.

Essential need-to-know information:

  • Do NOT make a move on the board when it is not your turn. System will "commit" you to that move and it will give the appearance of a bug, which it is not. Just like real chess: Hands off the board when it is not your turn :-)

  • Tournaments are accessible through web browser only, not app.  Use the recommended browsers Firefox & Chrome (and definitely not Edge or Internet Explorer).

  • Use the ChessKid username we provided you for Chess Club and Team. Our tournaments are not available to any personally created accounts.

  • Registration (and the Join button) will only open 15 minutes before the start of the tournament.

  • Log in on a web browser and visit Play vs Kid to see the tournaments https://www.chesskid.com/play/fastchess

  • If your opponent offers a draw or forfeit and you do not agree, please don't press the check-mark to accept the draw or forfeit. Do not exit out of game at any point to avoid a lost or withdrawing from tournament

  • We cannot manually add anyone into a round or tournament after it has started, or alter any results.

Please feel free to get friendly with the browser refresh button

  • Refresh page to get updated time stamps for upcoming tournaments and turn on that "Join" button

  • Refresh page in between rounds if next round doesn't automatically start

  • Refresh page if opponent seems to have moved away from game or if the game experiences a lag/glitch

  • Refresh page if you aren’t paired for following round. Please allow a few minutes for ChessKid to pair the following round.
