PS 133 Chess Club & Team

Welcome to the PS 133 Chess Club & Team Registration for the Chess Club & Team is now open!

Program Vision:

From complete beginners to advancing tournament players, our goal is that all PS 133 players can experience both the joy & significant social/educational benefits of learning and playing chess. Our PS 133 Team will prepare for local, City, State & National Competitions.

Players are matched into groups based on skill, interest level & age. This allows coaches to identify and create the right training environment for each player (complete beginner - advanced competitors).

ICN class groupings (subject to change based on program enrollment):

• Kings: 400+ USCF

• Queens: U400 USCF players with an eye towards competition

• Knights: Social developmental play

• Pawns: K-1, introductory coaching & play

* Each PS 133 program member will receive a team shirt and a www.chesskid.com gold membership.

• We will continue to follow all protocols as outlined by the NYC DOE regarding in person programming.

Friday Chess Club & Team

Fall Friday 2026: September 25th - January 29th

• October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th

• November 6th, 13th, 20th

• December 4th, 11th, 18th

• January 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th

Players will meet in the cafeteria directly after-school where they will have a light snack. Training and play will take place in classrooms onsite at PS 133. Pickup will occur at 5:00 PM in the lobby.

Lateral movements will occur, as we experiment with class grouping and activities to identify the optimal training opportunities for our players. Players will be promoted throughout the season as coaches feel fit.

A high emphasis on participation, engagement and self-study will be placed on our team groups.

PS 133 will have a weekly opening meeting, where past weeks success is recognized, the upcoming events are emphasized and expectations and team spirit is reinforced.

PS 133 Team Competitions:

Our PS 133 Team will compete at local, City, State & National competitions.

Program Rates: $795 per semester

• 10% sibling discount available

• Optional Late pick up 5:00 - 6:00 pm: $165 per semester
